Back in the day, strawberries were used as a cure for gout and as a skin medication. A cut berry rubbed on the skin was said to remove a light sunburn. Today we have a much happier use for strawberries: We eat them. Strawberries are long on sweetness and short on calories. They are also high in pectins, which have been linked to lower blood cholesterol levels in both animals and humans.
